Poplar Springs hosts annual basketball team camp
GRACEVILLE, Fla. (WTVY) - Down in the Sunshine State, the Poplar Springs Atomics are hosting their annual basketball team camp this week.
16 teams from the panhandle of Florida and some from right here in the Wiregrass including Rehoboth, Geneva, and Geneva County are putting in the work on the hardwood Wednesday.
Varsity boys squads play Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with each team playing three games. The games run from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. JV girls play on Tuesday and Thursday.
Atomics head coach Jared Owen says this event is a great way to test his team ahead of the upcoming season.
“You get in all these different situations that help you gage where we’re at right now and what we need to work on when we get to the fall and into basketball season,” said Owen. “”You’re going to have some games where you’re ahead by a lot, behind by a lot, close games. You kind of get all of it jam packed into five days of a camp.”
The camp continues into next week except it will be the varsity girls and JV boys turn on the hardwood. Admission is five dollars.
