DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - COVID-19 has cancelled numerous events this year, but will not put a stop to elections.

Houston County Probate Judge Patrick Davenport said they have taken a number of steps to ensure safety of voters at the polls. Including encouraging masks, providing hand sanitizer. and ordering 70,000 stylists so voters can sign on the polling pads with individual pens.

“This is so fundamental to our existence as Americans," Judge Davenport said. "The debate that’s going back and forth, whatever side you end up on, I view it as a healthy discussion about who we are as people. If you want to have a role in that process, you got to participate. So I would just encourage everyone, be a part of the process regardless of your voting preferences, come out and be a part of the process.”
